WHAT I LOVE THIS WEEK!

This is surely part of his movie-making team trying to get publicity for his new movie - where he is dressed up like a Greek God - King of Prussia or something? The movie looks totally boring, but he's such an adorable dancer - thus it's what I love this week!

JUST DANCE! IT WILL BE OK...DA-DA-DOOT JUST DANCE!

While my stay in London in 2008 was pretty brief, I did have an opportunity to see some amazing dancing! I love these photos because they tell a happy story. I took particular notice of the gentleman with white hair because he gave good face - full of bride doing his hankie dance!

BERLIN NIGHTCLUB IN CHICAGO

I VERY MUCH enjoy ending a night of drinking with some "dancing my ass off" at Berlin. When I need to blow off some steam from a long work week - Berlin has been there for me. I used to go - when I lived in Chicago - either Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.

The music is amazing with my favorite DJ being Chester and a close second Greg Haus, Larissa is ok, just not always rocking one great song after another like the other two. What makes Berlin such a special place to many people in Chicago is the eclectic crowd.

Hipsters to twinks from the suburbs to groups of frisky Latin girls to every age bracket imaginable - Berlin draws in a unique group of patrons that have one thing in common - ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS DANCE. The energy on the dance floor is contagious and the mood is always turned up to the highest level.

Gay and straight people enjoy Berlin, as most people tend to think of it as a purely gay night club. I have brought my straight friends, men and woman, there and they always ask me to take them back...but keep in mind, it takes the right kind of liberal straight person to enjoy this scene! I think the litmus test is how would they react to seeing hot men grouping each other on the dance floor and drag queens being treated like the highest of royalty.

There are quite a few places open till 5am in Chicago (like Charlies - gross!) but none of them offer the intense electronic-rock-alternative beats that these DJ's offer. Berlin is a home to me and many others as I know I can go there to dance off my drunk off with people I've danced with for many years - who, like me - keep coming back for the awesome music and eclectic experiences.

Honestly, life in Chicago wouldn't be the same without this institution!

BUST SOME DANCE MOVES...WHILE KNITTING?

Maybe it's the company I keep. Or maybe it's the events I choose to attend. Or maybe it's the hippies of the great state of California. For whatever reason, I have noticed knitting making a big comeback - or maybe it has always been popular and I just started to notice. I have three recent knitting stories to share...

First, the Now and Zen concert a few weeks back. I saw an older hippie mom and her young 13 year old son hanging in the park having a great time at the concert. Half way through the show she pulls out her knitting and starts to dance while she makes a scarf out of yarn.

Recap: grown woman; dancing with her 13-year old son; in the lawn of an outdoor concert; knitting a red scarf; grooving to Sugar Ray and Gavin DeGraw. Weird or normal?

Second, the Bridge School Benefit yesterday. Two woman in the seats a few rows up had their knitting with them. In beginning of the video above you can see one of them pulling the yarn up through the video. These two ladies did the popular chair dance moves to songs they recognized while making what looked to be matching tan blankets. They did however take a break for a giant tray of nachos - which had re fried beans, gobs of cheese, peppers, sour cream etc. Recap: two woman chair dancing, eating nachos and knitting through Josh Groban and Death Cab for Cutie.

Third, today at work, while I was trying to get my newsletter designed and sent to the printer, I could hear 2 co-workers next to my desk having a 10 minute conversation on knitting and the best yarn stores in San Francisco and what yarn stores they love in NYC. They discussed what they are currently making out of yarn and what they will be making in the future. Recap: blah blah blah - yarn.

NOW - My mom has always knitted baby blankets and scarves and I imagine she talked about it at work. But she is a Michael's Craft Store shopper...I couldn't imagine her traveling to specialty stores for yarn. She wouldn't dance at an outdoor concert while she was knitting either - at least I don't think she would. Maybe momma Slattery brings her knitting to concerts and I just didn't think to ask if she did. I know she loves Bon Jovi and I think she might have seen his concert. I will have to ask if she like to dance at concerts while knitting.

I guess there is nothing wrong with all of this. Just pointing out some knitting oddities I have seen/heard of late.
