HAWAIIAN MEMORIES AND ALOHA FEVER

John and I celebrated our two year anniversary in Honolulu, Hawaii over Thanksgiving break. Our friend Andy came along, he was there for over a week and stayed at a hotel across the street from ours. Our hotel looked over Waikiki Beach, which provided great photo opportunities when the sun was setting.

In addition to the many hours soaking up the sun at the beach we went snorkeling at Humana Bay, hiked up Diamond Head Mountain, shopped, watched some breath-taking sunsets, saw a few hula dancers, had front row seats to see Honolulu’s annual holiday parade, on the one day it rained we saw “Four Christmases” with Vince Vaughn and Reece Witherspoon (a very cute holiday movie!), had some delicious meals and we experienced some history/culture by seeing Pearl Harbor on our last day on the island.

This was my first time to Hawaii –John had taken a few trips there before. We had the opportunity to experience island life a while back on our Greece trip when we went to Mykonos Island. We totally loved the island mentality, so I knew I was going to LOVE Hawaii. Every person who goes to Hawaii comes back with so many pleasant stories.

The people we met who live on the island were SO freaking nice! They were happy go lucky, always relaxed and often wearing skimpy swimsuits – seriously, what else could you ask for in a vacation!

From the hotel staff who greeted us every time we walked in, to our 75 year-old waitress Florence who served up great conversation at the breakfast buffet (she complimented John on how well mannered he is – told me I look like Josh Groban), to the valet guys giving us perfect directions for our adventures on the island, these people made sure we had a splendid time on our vacation.

One interesting discussion came out of our delicious Thanksgiving dinner. We were commenting on how friendly and laid-back Hawaiians are and now completely understand why Barack Obama is so calm, cool and collected. He is obviously a very intelligent man and I can’t help but believe his calm nature comes from his upbringing in Honolulu. Just an observation, but everyone we met had this perfect demeanor that was so refreshing which translated into Obama love at our Thanksgiving meal.

My friend Amanda told me on Facebook.com yesterday, “Aloha! & Welcome back 2 the main land & reality! Now you will have "Aloha Fever", & you will love it & long to be there all the time!!!! She is right on the money with that comment! I feel so very blessed I was able to experience this vacation with the man I love! I’m still walking on clouds remembering what a great vacation it was!
