I stayed home and watched Obama take the oath of office and give his inaugural address. I had Doris laying in my lap and DeRosa laying on my shoulders. They were sleeping, I was watching every second of this monumental event.
It was fun to see past Presidents interact. Did you notice everyone ignored Jimmy Carter as he and his wife walked in. He walked by Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush like they were the town bullies and he didn't want to mess with them. He did stop to give a little smooch to Barbara Bush, not sure what that was all about! But very interesting stuff!
Did anyone else think Aretha Franklin sounded strained and more like the D-List Diva out of luck and out of air throughout her song. Yikes, it was really memorably horrid performance.
Back to the Obama. He and his family looked great. I thought Michelle picked a great color for her dress but I was kind of shocked that she had a red/pinkish purse...but I found out that was the Bible that Abraham Lincoln used for his oath of office. I did enjoy Malia using her camera throughout the event - I want to see her photos!
After he gave his speech I needed to walk to work and get some work done. I read about a parade and now tonight I have been watching the countless balls the Obama's are attending. Very impressed with the A-list celebrities showing up to support the new President.
Did you see Kanye West perform on the the MTV Ball...he was pretty terrible...so bad they cut to the host mid song...it look like he was just loosing energy and his voice was dying out. I have seen him perform live and he was great, I guess an off night!
Jack Johnson, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, John Legend - wow, they had a bunch of talent I would have loved to see! Some day I'll go and take pictures or report on these concerts...hopefully for when Obama gets reelected.
The best part of his speech was in the end:
"America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations."
