THIS WAS A WEDDING TO REMEMBER!

I just found this photo of me and Alison dancing at my first O-H-I-O wedding!

I was back in church after many years away - I'm a recovering Catholic - to watch my dear friend Alison get married. Towards the middle of the service, after the Eucharist - bread and wine - was delivered to the priest, I could tell Alison was in trouble.

The priest asked for the Eucharistic ministers to come forward. Alison, while kneeling in front of the church with hubby Mike, turns to the crowd and waves two relatives to come up to the alter.

The priest asks if they had been trained to be Eucharistic ministers - they politely said no and the priest ushered them back to their seats.

Again the priest asks for the Eucharistic minister to come forward. Now Alison turns back to the crowd and her face turned bright red.

My friend Lauren was sitting next to me and I said to her, "Alison needs me, I heading up there!" I left the pew and Lauren followed me.

BACKGROUND: I was trained - when I was a good Catholic boy - to distribute the Eucharist but Lauren wasn't - in fact I don't think Lauren went to church so this was completely new to her.

The priest asked us if had been trained and we both said yes - a little lie to a priest from Lauren - she's not religious - no harm no foul, and we proceeded to pass out the wine.

After it was all over we compared notes and I found out that she didn't wipe the glass after people sipped the wine, which is pretty gross, but we didn't tell anyone at the reception about that part.

The family on both sides came up to Lauren and I and praised us for stepping up to the plate. They said this is something they will always remember and were happy we helped bail them out.

I didn't think it was too big of a deal - just a funny quirky part of our night - AND wanted to go get to the reception and peruse the open bar.

It was a night to remember that was highlighted by a Napoleon Dynamite dance my friend Lisa and I attempted to do - I think we made fools of ourselves - gotta love drunken wedding moments. Great memories of my first wedding in Columbus, Ohio!
