JENNIFER HUDSON AND ROBIN THICKE CONCERT WAS DIVA-LICIOUS!

For John's birthday I bought us tickets to see Jennifer Hudson and Robin Thicke perform here in Philadelphia last night at the Tower Theater.

SETTING
We had great seats, about 12 rows from the front. The theatre was set up like the Chicago Theatre, old school "movie theatre" type setting with a large balcony up top. We sat with an eclectic group of people. Young, old, black, white, gay, straight and everything in between. The two gay guys sitting next to us told me I look like Josh Groban - then the one sitting directly next to me said Groban is "deliciously cute" with a real big smile. I waited to tell John until we got to the car, I didn't want to stir anything up during the show - which was awesome!

ROBIN THICKE
He started the night off with a bunch of melodic mellow songs mixed with a few up beat jams. He raped at one point and I thought to myself, not bad for a white boy. He really shined when it came to sing his falsetto, he has such range and depth to his voice. But the best part of his performance was his stage presence - it was something to admire. He really kept the crowd going throughout - flirting with the diverse woman in the front row. He did a nice job at covering "Brown Sugar" by D'Angelo - one of my favorite R&B artists. He also sang a few oldies but goodies and it made me think - this guy should have been performing in the 60's Motown era, his musical abilities would be admired in that era. John thinks he can be compared to Elvis or Berry Gibb - from the Bee Gees.

JENNIFER HUDSON
The recently awarded Grammy winner mixed together a beautiful array of her best vocals for the show. She brought down the house with some of the songs she made famous - and some she made famous again - from movie "Dream Girls." She also sang a bunch of songs from her new CD - which showcases some great contemporary powerful R&B ballads. She has such confidence, stage presence and talent, you would think this was he 100th tour instead of her second (first one being the American Idol tour a few years back). She worked the crowd, shaking hands with anyone who reached out to her, she even placed the microphone out to have a fan or two sing parts of her songs. Their was a radio contest winner who came out to sing "I'm Telling You" with her and they both did an amazing job - the place literally stood up and started to jump up and scream in excitement!

Hudson has the power to move you with her voice. Some of her critics say she's yelling, not singing. I say boo hoo to those naysayers, this girl has TALENT! And in an era of young artists being caught blatantly lip syncing their songs during live performances - I say give me the talented song writers and singers, lets all band together and buy their music and gladly purchase tickets to see them perform! I believe this young lady will be around for many years to come, she will be the type of artist you will say "remember her when..." or "I knew she was going to be one of the greats after she..."

John and I had a splendid time at the concert and appreciate the artistic abilities by both of these young VERY talented singers. We both left the theatre with big smiles - what a night to remember!
