CALIFORNIA ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

I just got back from the newly remodeled California Academy of Sciences here in San Francisco in Golden Gate Park (photo of the buildings unique green 2.5 acre "living roof" above). My company had an event there and we had over 800 members attend - needless to say the community has been excited about this opening which happens Sept. 27 and we all got a sneak peak. Some of the highlights of this new museum include:
  • LEED Platinum Certified (completely green museum - inside and out)
  • Designed by famed architect Renzo Piano - who also designed the Art Institute of Chicago's Modern Wing, which is currently being built across from Millennium Park
  • It is the only museum in the world to have a planetarium, aquarium and natural history museum all in 100,000 square feet of public space
  • The view from the "living roof" overlooking Golden Gate Park is magnificent

Needless to say I was really happy to be one of the first to see this museum and experience some of its greatness. To watch some videos from their Web site, click here.
